Jumuiya Women Fund (JWF), originally founded as Jumuiya Women Group in 2001 as a Community-Based Organization, was incorporated in February 2019 as a company limited by guarantee under legal name "Jumuiya Women Fund Ltd." With its operational headquarters in Eldoret, Kenya, JWF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing women's rights and development.
An empowered society in which every woman and girl lives free from gender inequality and social-economic deprivation
To promote feminist philanthropy in East Africa through grant making, capacity strengthening, and global resource mobilization, supporting Women and Girls Rights Organizations, Networks, Movements, and Social Enterprises to achieve gender equality, and tackle poverty and address climate change.
JWF leverages grant making, institutional capacity strengthening, influencing philanthropy, feminist crisis response, and resource mobilization to deliver impactful outcomes for women and girls. Initially focused on direct implementation of poverty alleviation efforts, our approach has evolved to an enabler model, working with diverse women-led community groups and organizations to address structural causes of poverty and gender inequality.
JWF believes that strengthening women-led organizations empowers communities. Local actions have the potential to influence systemic change, and long-term investments paired with capacity building lead to sustainable impacts across all levels of society.
Jumuiya Women Fund’s mission is to support women-led grassroots organizations through grant-making, capacity strengthening, and global resource mobilization to advance gender equality and empowerment. Guided by a feminist lens, JWF ensures that all engagements promote equity, inclusion, and systemic change.
JWF is committed to a set of core principles: being women-centered, responsive and participatory, sustainable, strengths-based, and flexible and long-term. These principles ensure that every initiative aligns with the organization’s mission and values.
